Bringing an award-winning street photography style to weddings.
Yes, I stole and adapted the “at war” quote from William Eggleston. But I hope that shows I’m coming from different influences than your average wedding photographer.
Garry Winogrand. Jeff Mermelstein. Elliot Erwit. William Eggleston. These are the photographers who inspire me. None of them are wedding photographers.
I’m a candid hardcore street photographer who shoots weddings. So I’m constantly at war with the wedding photography obvious.
Avoiding Tired Old Cliches and Traditions.
So what is being at war with the wedding photography obvious?
Quite simple I avoid all the tired old cliches and traditions that wedding photography is supposed to be. As a street photography I see each and every wedding as unique.
I come with no preconceptions or plans. How each wedding story unfolds and evolves is unique to you and your guests. There’s no unimaginative identikit approach or repetive shot lists.
Your wedding is unique to you. Your wedding photography should be the same
The Democratic Wedding Eye.
I’m looking for the real, the unexpected, the amusing. The things that tell your story as it. Real memories you can look back on, not a stylised recreation. Unless you actually are a real princess or prince, I’m not trying to make you look like one.
I’m democratic. There’s no preference for anything. If it catches my eye, if it tells a story of who you or your guests are then I’m likely to document it.
I won’t march you up the side of a mountain. I won’t make you pose as if you’re forlorn and miserable. And I won’t take hundreds of shots of table settings and flower arrangements.
And Whilst We Are Talking About Posed Photos.
Yes I can shoot posed portraits and group shots. But I’d rather not. And generally you and your guests get quickly bored of them on the day too.
But I realise some couples will want some, so I do include posed portraits and group shots in my top package. We’ll get these done quickly and simply, so you can get back to celebrating your day with your friends and family.
And I can crack on with unobtrusive and candid approach you actually booked me for.
It’s All In The Wedding Details
Like my great influence, William Eggleston, I love the small details. But I’m not going to document them in a cliched still life kind of way.
I prefer to include them as active parts of your story. Elevating the mundane parts into starring roles. Photography is democracy and everything worthy of being photographed.
Less of the blah, blah blah!
I don’t take any notice of wedding blogs or the supposed latest wedding fads. I won’t be shooting your wedding with blog features in mind.
The wedding industry doesn’t really interest me much. Whether you’re having a big traditional wedding or an intimate elopement I simply shoot your wedding story without prejudice.
I refuse to use words like “awesome’, “super excited” or add all the usual labels like “alternative”, “boho” or “whimsical”. I prefer to let my photos do the actual talking.
Street Photography Wedding Photographer
I’ve been shooting street photography for well over a decade now. In that time I’ve been widely published, exhibited in exhibitions from London to Los Angeles and won numerous awards – including the PDN Street Photography 2016 competition.
I’ve also won multiple awards for my unique wedding photography.
