Vatna applied to the groom during theIndian Wedding Sikh Maiyaan ceremony in London

London Indian Wedding Photographer – Sikh Maiyan Ceremony

Indian Wedding Photographer in Croydon, London How I came to be Inderdeep’s London Indian wedding photographer for his Sikh Maiyan Celebrations is slightly unusual.  I had a number of years before documented his sister’s baby shower celebrations, so his mother reached out to me to see if I was available for his actual Indian wedding ceremony.  I was and she went ahead and booked me but unbeknown to her, the father of the bride had also booked another wedding photographer. South London Wedding Photography So, in the end, I was asked if I could instead photograph the Groom-to-be’s pre-wedding ceremonies, the first of which was to the Sikh Maiyan Celebrations at the family home near Croydon in South London. A Documentary Wedding Photography Approach Of course, I’m fully aware as a London Indian wedding photographer that Sikh wedding ceremonies can be very traditional and formal events.  Given the number of more formal portraits that are normally expected on the day a documentary wedding photography approach is not always the first consideration.  However, Inderdeep’s family were …

Northamptonshire Wedding Photographer – Wicksteed Park

Tanya and Steve were having a low-key and intimate wedding at Wicksteed Park in Northamptonshire.  As part of this they wanted a Northamptonshire wedding photographer who would blend into the background, capture all the natural moments from the day and simply allow them to enjoy their wedding day as they should – with their friends and family. As a documentary wedding photographer this is what I specialise in.  I document the unposed moments and real emotions as they naturally evolve on the wedding day.  There’s no barking instructions or ordering people about.  It also helped that I had photographed Tanya’s brother Chris and Gemma’s rural wedding in Northants the year before. So Tanya and Steve knew my relaxed wedding photojournalism approach was exactly what they wanted for their own small but unique wedding day story. The Fun & Nerves of the Bridal Preparations There’s nothing like the bridal preparations for capturing a wide range of emotions right at the start of the wedding day. There’s often much laughter, nerves and even the odd tear.  As …

The bride arrives for the wedding at Highdown Vineyard in West Sussex.

Highdown Vineyard Wedding Photographer – Sienna & Phil

I love a Highdown Vineyard wedding.  As a wedding photojournalist I’ve shot there a number of times and it’s without doubt one of the best wedding venues in West Sussex.  So when Sienna and Phil asked me to be their wedding photographer there, I just couldn’t wait to get started! Street Photography Wedding Photographer Sienna puts the finishing touches to her hair for the big day. One of the reasons Sienna and Phil chose me to be their Highdown Vineyard wedding photographer was because of their love for street photography.  Being an obsessive street photographer in my personal work, they knew I’d be a great fit for documenting their wedding story in a natural and candid way.

The bride and groom dancing during a wedding at Wandsworth Town Hall

Wandsworth Wedding Photographer London – Andrea & Nick

I previously shot Andrea and Nick’s Nigerian Wedding Blessing at St Anselm’s church in Tooting Bec in the London Borough of Wandsworth .  So as a Wandsworth wedding photographer it was great to be back there again a week or so later for their formal wedding day, before moving on to Wandsworth Town Hall for the evening celebrations.

The bride is hugged during a speech in the Nigerian wedding blessing in St Anselm's church hall in Tooting Bec, London.

Nigerian Wedding Blessing – St Anselm’s, Tooting Bec

When Andrea and Nick told me they were planning a traditional Nigerian wedding blessing a week before their actual wedding day, at St Anselm’s in Tooting Bec, London, I just knew I had to include that in the wedding photography package I offered them. After all, as soon as I think of traditional African weddings I immediately think vibrant colours, song, vibrant colour, dance and, did I mention, vibrant colours – everything that my documentary wedding photography approach would love to capture..  And I definitely wasn’t disappointed.

Black and white wedding photography of same sex wedding couple, Arad and Brian, leaping off of the ornamental stones in the piazza, at the Pump House in Battersea Park. The Pump House is undoubtedly one of the best wedding venues in Wandsworth, London.

Battersea and Chelsea Wedding Photography – Arad & Brian

Arad & Brian’s Same-Sex Wedding As a wedding photographer I was delighted to be chosen for Arad and Brian’s same sex wedding, as a result of being found on Instagram by Arad.  Arad a keen photographer and lover of photography himself knew he wanted a very candid and storytelling approach to his and Brian’s wedding day – and it was my natural wedding reportage photography on Instagram that led him to me.  The wedding was going to be split between the wonderful Pump House in Battersea Park and at the cool Bluebird Restaurant on the Kings Road in Chelsea.  As a London documentary wedding photographer they really were London wedding venues I dream of shooting at.

Dorset Wedding Photography – Ellie & James

The Wedding Day in Ferndown, Hampreston and Stapehill I came to be the wedding photographer for Ellie and James’ wedding down in Dorset simply because James is the son of Steve – who is often my second photographer when I require one at weddings.  So it was one of those rare occasions where I was meeting the bride and groom for the first time on the wedding day itself.

A beautiful rural wedding in Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire

Gemma & Chris’ do-it-yourself backyard wedding in the heart of England Yes, I’m still catching up on a number of previous weddings here on my blog.  When Gemma married Chris it was a truly beautiful day on what I can only describe as an archetypal rural English wedding in pretty Northamptonshire. I’ve actually known Chris for almost 30 years now, although we hadn’t really seen much of one another in the last 15 years or so.  So it was an absolute honour and thrill to be asked to document his and Gemma’s wedding in the village of Nether Heyford – where Chris had spent his childhood growing up and still a community he has very strong ties to. So I knew it was going to be a very special wedding day. Bridal Preparations at home in Abington, Northampton My day started early, as it usually does, turning up at the couple’s home in Abington, Northampton where Gemma and her bridal party were preparing for the wedding day ahead.  As is always the way with bridal …

Colour wedding photography of the bride and groom embracing amongst the vines, during the wedding reception at Highdown Vineyard in Ferring, West Sussex.

Highdown Vineyard Wedding Photographer – Crystal and Dom

As a wedding photographer I’m so lucky to visit so many beautiful wedding venues around the country.  Highdown Vineyard, nestled cosily on the slopes of the South Downs, in-between Worthing and Littlehampton in West Sussex, is easily one of the most beautiful.  I also count myself very fortunate to have photographed a number of weddings at Highdown. So when I met up with Crystal and Dom, 6 months earlier on a cold grey day in south west London, and they told me they were having their wedding reception at Highdown Vineyard, I knew I had to be their wedding photographer. A Sussex Wedding Photographer In fact, the reason Crystal and Dom had contacted me about being their wedding photographer was because they had seen some of my previous Highdown Vineyard wedding photography whilst visiting this most beautiful West Sussex wedding venue. So once they had booked me, I couldn’t wait for their wedding day to come around.  And when the day came around I definitely wasn’t disappointed.  The sun was shining beautifully and I found …

Gatton Hall Surrey Wedding Photography – Claire and Nick

I first met Claire and Nick in a coffee shop at Clapham Junction railway station in South West London.  One of the first things they said to me was, “we hate posing for photos, we always end up looking like idiots.” For such a handsome couple this was an amusing thing to hear, but as a natural storytelling wedding photographer who prefers to capture real moments – rather than over pose or set up wedding photos – it was music to my ears. The couple were getting married at Gatton Hall near Mertsham in Surrey, but the morning started off at Claire’s parents home near Leatherhead in Surrey, for the usual bridal preparations.  As always there was plenty of excitement as the girls got ready and as Claire is a producer with a well known TV property show she was able to call in colleagues to film the day too. I was also impressed to discover that Claire’s dad was also a former professional football player for Exeter City – and his finest moment coming …

Kingston Old Court House Wedding Photography – Michelle and Sally

Michelle and Sally’s same sex wedding was a fun and delightful mix of home comforts in New Malden and a historic wedding venue in Kingston, Surrey. I arrived at their home in New Malden in the morning to find Sally preparing flowers, whilst workman were putting the finishing touches to a small marquee in their back garden, which would host the wedding reception later in day.  Michelle, who is South African, also had family from South Africa staying with them – so there was a definite busy and cosmopolitan air to the morning preparations. Both the brides-to-be seemed remarkably relaxed ahead of their, even with more and more family and friends arriving at their New Malden home.  It was already clear that the wedding was going to be a fairly relaxed and informal affair. The wedding ceremony itself took place at the delightful Old Court House which is part of the Guildhall in Kingston. With its wood paneling and high benches it definitely made for a grand wedding setting.  It’s no surprise its one of …

Northampton Wedding Photographer – Erinna & Rob’s Wedding Story

Northampton Wedding Photography When Erinna & Rob asked me to be the wedding photographer for their wedding up in Northampton, I was absolutely thrilled. I had known Rob since we were both about 5 or 6 years old but I hadn’t seen him in about 10 years or so. So not only was it a great privilege to document their wedding day but it also meant I got to catch up with a number of (not so) old faces from the past.

Waltham Abbey Essex Wedding – Annique & Lee

The Street Photography Wedding Photographer As a street photography wedding photographer, Annique and Lee’s wedding day in Waltham Abbey, Essex, was a fantastic day for unobtrusively capturing some great candid and natural moments. My street photography approach to weddings really does allow me to document the emotions, the humour and the real stories that happen when a couple can simply concentrate on their day – and this really was the case with this Waltham Abbey wedding in Essex.

Wedding at the Barns at Hunsbury: Tanya & Nathan

Street Photography Wedding Photographer Being Tanya and Nathan’s documentary wedding photographer, at their wedding at the Barns at Hunsbury in Northampton, came about as a result of my wedding photography.  Unbeknown to me, Nathan had been following my personal street photography from afar. In one of those funny quirks of fate that life sometimes throws up, he mentioned my street photography to a fellow work colleague who turned out to be my uncle. Long story short, as a result a few messages passed between myself, uncle and Nathan and before I knew it I was booked to shoot Tanya and Nathan’s wedding at the wonderful Barns at Hunsbury – but not before I’d hooked with Nathan to shoot some street photography one Saturday in London. Wedding Morning Preparations As usual I arrived early on the wedding morning at Tanya and Nathan’s home in Northampton.  As anyone who follows me regularly, I love this part of the day. Everyone is still relaxed so there’s plenty of laughter and fun but, of course, apprehension for the day …

Black and white wedding photography of the bride and groom's first dance, in Gipsy Hill, by one of the best London wedding photographers, Darren Lehane

Gipsy Hill London Wedding Photographer – Cynthia & Julian

A South London Wedding Story As a London wedding photographer – and a south London one at that – it made a nice change to be shooting a wedding literally on my doorstep. I’ve known Cynthia for a few years now, so I was delighted and thrilled when she asked me to photograph her wedding at Christ Church in Gipsy Hill, Lambeth. Cynthia’s roots are firmly Caribbean, with her family hailing from the island of Barbados. Julian, on the other hand, is of Polish extract via south London, so it was a wedding with a real mix of cultures. Both Cynthia and Julian were getting ready together, at their home by Norwood Park – along with all of Cynthia’s children, grandchildren, brothers and other family members! So the preparations were crazy, hectic and chaotic…but all in fun and enjoyable way.  Given my natural wedding photography approach it was fantastic to be able to blend into the background and document so many fun and emotional moments. Christ Church Gipsy Hill Wedding Photography The wedding ceremony took …

Littleton House Wedding Photography – Shepperton Studios, Surrey

When Chloe and Dan told me they were getting married at a film studio I thought they were joking. I mean it’s only celebs and Hollywood A listers who would be so extravagant, surely?  But Littleton House is a Surrey wedding venue that is set within the Shepperton Studios, itself part of the renowned Pinewood film studios. A 17th century manor house set within the hangers of a film studio is certainly one of the more unique and unusual wedding venues I have ever had the pleasure to shoot at…but it’s that uniqueness that makes it one of the best Surrey wedding venues. Ashford Bridal Preparations As usual I turned up at Dan and Chloe’s home in Ashford, Surrey a couple of hours before the wedding ceremony at Littleton House, in order to document the bridal preparations. It would be fair to say it was one of the more relaxed bridal preparations I’ve captured, with plenty of smiles and laughs – although there were a few tears that flowed once Chloe got into her beautiful …

Spurs, Kids and Losing One’s Head – Amy & Mark’s Wedding Story

Dodmoor House, Northamptonshire Wedding Photography Travelling up to Northamptonshire for Amy and Mark’s wedding at Dodmoor House, I knew a few things. I knew the wedding was going to very child friendly, but that was fine – as I’ve said before I think kids make some of the best photo opportunities at wedding. I knew there was likely to be some emotional tears and a lot of laughs. But the one thing I wasn’t quite expecting was a wedding with a Tottenham Hotspur FC theme throughout. The colours for the day were predominantly blue and white (to match Spurs’ team colours), tables named after Spurs players, a street sign for the Spurs stadium, White Hart Lane, on the head table and even Amy wearing a Tottenham Hotspur garter beneath her wedding dress!  Being a West Ham United fan myself – who share a fierce rivalry with Spurs – it was an extra challenge for me!  Then again, I managed to get through a previous wedding with a lot of Millwall fans in one piece (Millwall …

Holy Ghost Luton wedding photography captures the bride throwing the bouquet

Holy Ghost Luton Wedding Photography

Charlene and David’s Wedding Story I should start off by apologising for having not posted here for a while.  This has been a result of being so busy with weddings, pre-wedding shoots and a short break in Budapest. Anyway, I hope to make amends with a few posts over the next few days. Back at the beginning of April I had the absolute pleasure of shooting Charlene and David’s wedding photography at the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church in Luton, Bedfordshire. The bridal preparations took place at a friend’s house and Charlene was positively glowing and radiant with excitement and anticipation for the big day ahead. Given my wedding reportage approach I love this part of the day for the whole range of emotions and moments it can throw up. There was a slight incident with the zip of a bridesmaid’s dress that just simply wouldn’t do up despite everyone tugging at or applying vaseline, etc.  Eventually the dress was done up…but it had resulted in the bridal party getting to the Holy Ghost quite …

Hyatt Regency Churchill London Wedding Photography

Jodi & Simon’s Wonderful Wedding Story in the heart of the Capital City I’d really been looking forward to Jodi and Simon’s wedding at the Hyatt Regency Churchill in Portman Square, London. When we had met originally it was clear from the very outset that they both “got” and wanted a documentary wedding photography approach to capture all the real moments and  genuine emotions of their unique wedding story. They were very relaxed about portraits and group shots – the important thing for them was documenting their wedding day as it unfolded naturally.  This was all music to my ears, as telling a wedding story is central to all I do, so I couldn’t wait to get started. And what a wedding story it was.  Even looking back now, I am amazed how much they packed into their day – it’s no secret that I ended up with more photos from their wedding than any other I have shot.  Jodi is from a Jewish family, and whilst not strictly a Jewish wedding, the day was …

Northamptonshire Wedding Photography – Lois & Dan

Another older wedding I am catching up on posting to my website.  This one is from Lois and Dan’s wedding St Luke Church in Kislingbury, Northamptonshire and then for the wedding reception at the Village Institute in Upper Harlestone, Northamptonshire back in 2014. What was lovely about being the wedding photographer for Lois and Dan, is that I lived next door to Lois’ mum Fiona and auntie Ginny for a few years when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I then reconnected with Ginny about 40 years later via Facebook who then recommended me to Lois and Dan. A year after their wedding, I also went on to shoot Lois’ brother Phil’s wedding to Emily in 2015. It was so lovely to carry on such a connection with the family after all this time. Whilst I documented Lois getting ready at home in Kislingbury, my second photographer was with Dan whilst he got ready at a hotel in the nearby village of Harpole, also in Northamptonshire. It was a beautiful September day and the …

Rowton Castle Wedding Photography: An International Love Story

Maria & Peter’s Amazing Wedding Story at Rowton Castle in Shropshire As far as love stories go, Maria and Peter’s is pretty much an international love affair which relied upon a good deal of luck and, arguably, twists of fate.  Maria, who is from California in the US, was asked by her company a few year ago if she would travel to Ireland to do some training there.  As chance would have it Peter, who is originally from Hampshire in the UK, was out in Ireland working at the time and, of course, as fate would have it, the pair of them met and eventually fell in love. Then 2 years ago the opportunity of working in the US came up and Peter didn’t hesitate at taking the job and joining his beloved Maria out in the States. The international connections don’t end there though, as Maria’s family are of Hispanic origins and Peter’s are of Scottish heritage – so the wedding offered up a real mix of proud and passionate cultures. This meant my …

Oxfordshire Wedding Photography – Alex & Peter’s Wedding Story

Since I launched this wedding photography website a year of so ago, replacing an older one, I’m still catching up with posting some of my older weddings, so here I am looking back at the summer of 2014. Irrespective of years there are some weddings that come along in amazing locations with lots of things going on, that it makes your job as a wedding photographer so fun and enjoyable, you start to wonder if it’s really a job at all. Alex and Woody’s (Peter) Oxfordshire wedding was one such wedding. Set in the heart of rural Oxfordshire in the historic church of St Laurence in Warborough – a village used as an idylic location in the hugely popular TV series Midsommer Murders (one of the most dangerous and deadly places in the entire world if you believe the TV show! Though I’m happy to report there were no such problems on the wedding day itself!) – it had all the makings of a classic and timeless English rural wedding – but one that came …

The bride comforts her bride during a same sex wedding

Woodlands Park Hotel Wedding – Elaine & Marisa

I was really looking forward to Elaine & Marisa’s wedding at the wonderful Woodlands Park Hotel in Cobham, Surrey for a whole host of reasons – not least of all because it was the first same sex wedding I’d had the absolute honour and privilege to shoot.  With Christmas just around the corner, it promised to be a really festive day and I couldn’t wait to get shooting. Woodlands Park Hotel is a unique country house hotel set in 8 acres of beautiful Surrey countryside, yet is conveniently close to London.  Built in 1885 it is a Grade II listed Victorian Building and was one of the first buildings in England to have electric lighting.  It was also a favourite country retreat for the likes of Oscar Wilde and the Prince of Wales – so Elaine, Marisa and their wedding guests were definitely in some distinguished company. As is tradition, Elaine and Marisa hadn’t seen one another on the morning of the wedding, and undertook their bridal preparations in separate rooms of the hotel.  Given …

Ashridge House wedding photography of guests looking on at the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony

Ashridge House Wedding Photography in Hertfordshire – Carly & Sonny

Carly & Sonny’s Stunning Wedding Story When I met Carly and Sonny for the first time, one grey and wet afternoon in Welling, Kent, the thing I most loved was the fact they both got the whole idea of a documentary wedding photography approach. In fact, they had been looking for the right wedding photojournalist for a little while when they happened across one of my Facebook advertisements.  So I knew straight away that I wanted to take my own unique wedding reportage approach and photograph their special wedding story. Then they told me that would be having their wedding up at the stunningly beautiful Ashridge House near Berkhamsted.  Carly had seen the venue in a magazine a year and a half before and had fallen instantly in love with the beautiful Hertfordshire wedding venue – so booked it straight away…without Sonny even knowing about it! So I just knew it was going to be a fabulous wedding and was delighted when they asked me to be their wedding photographer. Beautiful Hertfordshire Wedding Venue Despite …
