Highdown Vineyard Wedding Photographer – Sienna & Phil

Featured Wedding, Wedding Stories

I love a Highdown Vineyard wedding.  As a wedding photojournalist I’ve shot there a number of times and it’s without doubt one of the best wedding venues in West Sussex.  So when Sienna and Phil asked me to be their wedding photographer there, I just couldn’t wait to get started!

Street Photography Wedding Photographer

The bride during the wedding preparations at home in Brighton, East Sussex.Sienna puts the finishing touches to her hair for the big day.

One of the reasons Sienna and Phil chose me to be their Highdown Vineyard wedding photographer was because of their love for street photography.  Being an obsessive street photographer in my personal work, they knew I’d be a great fit for documenting their wedding story in a natural and candid way.

The day started in Brighton, at their home, where Sienna had her bridal preparations.  This is always a favourite part of the day for me and an important part of any wedding couple’s wedding story. The relaxed but excited vibe often provides some of the best candid wedding moments.

Highdown Vineyard Wedding Ceremony

The congregation wait patiently for the bride to arrive. Such scenes are important in setting the context of the wedding venue.

As I said at the start, Highdown Vineyard is a fantastic wedding venue.  Nestled on the warm, gentle slopes of the South Downs in Sussex, it’s a real vineyard with rows of grape vines set against the glorious West Sussex countryside.

The rural but contemporary buildings are a fantastic setting for the wedding ceremony, and give an intimate mood to proceedings.  It was certainly the perfect setting for Sienna and Phil who looked the perfect contemporary couple.

I Heard It On The Grapevine

A beautiful black and white portrait of Sienna and Phil amongst the grape vines at Highdown Vineyard in West Sussex.

Yeah, sorry – I couldn’t resist using that heading.  However, if you are going to have a Highdown Vineyard wedding, then you’ve got take advantage of its amazing and unusual vineyard settings.  And yes, that means getting in amongst the grapevines.

With such glorious weather on the day, the grapevines not only offered Sienna and Phil a quiet place to escape to for a while, but also somewhere nice and cool too.

Beautiful Sussex Sunlight

Sienna laughs naturally with her friends as they enjoy photos from the photobooth. A strong backlight adds to the beautiful mood.

Another fantastic thing about a Highdown Vineyard wedding is that location on the slopes of the South Downs offers some beautiful late afternoon light.

This was definitely something I took advantage of for Sienna and Phil’s big day.  Late afternoon is often a quiet time on the wedding day.  So having great light helps to lift what are often smaller and less significant moments from the day.

Time to Get Funky

You can’t fake natural moments like this, that’s why I love being a wedding photojournalist.

I love the evening wedding reception. It’s when guests are much more comfortable and happy to let their hair down.  It certainly offers a wedding photojournalist lots of opportunity for real moments and genuine emotions.  So I love to stay after the first dance and capture that part of the wedding day.

If there’s one thing I really love, it’s capturing the dance floor with lots of movement and atmosphere.  I prefer not to light up the room and lose the mood.  So my style captures lots of blurring of lights and freezing of fantastic expressions.  Sienna and Phil’s big day definitely didn’t disappoint in that respect.

Anyhow, that’s enough waffle from me.  Here’s just a small selection of the wedding photography from Sienna and Phil’s wedding.  I’m sure you’ll agree, that their’s was a fantastic day and that Highdown Vineyard is a beautiful Sussex wedding venue.
